UGANDA

Flights

  • San Francisco to Brussels (via Newark) on Continental / 11 hours / USD$1600
  • Brussels to Entebbe on Brussels Airlines / 8 hours / USD$700
  • Entebbe to Kampala / 45 minutes / USD$40

Kampala

  • Driver: James / call +256-772-465-378 / fair and speaks great english
  • Hotel: Red Chili Hideaway / USD$12 for singles / USD$25 for doubles / Okay food, decent rooms, quiet lush grounds, good place to meet other travelers, only short boda ride into town.  NOTE:  They have internet, but its slow.
  • Internet: Sheraton Hotel / USD$5 per hour / This is the best internet I could find in Kampala (3 days looking).  Its expensive, but you get what you pay for.  Most places are barley good enough for for low volume email, and I needed to do a little more…
  • Food: ?

Gulu

  • Buses: Post Bus / Departs Kampala Post Office promptly @ 8:15 am / 6 hours / USD$10 / Post Bus is better than those at the taxi park because: it leaves on time, the drivers don’t harass you.
  • Hotel: Hotel Florida / +256-774-849-834 / USD$25 for queen bed with a view
  • Hotel: Acholi Ber / ? / USD$22 for a queen bed w/nicer bathroom
  • Internet: Luxury Computers / +256-712-390-172 / USD$1 per hour / fastest internet I found in all of Uganda
  • Food: Kope Cafe / get the english breakfast for USD$4
